Cleveland SC v Lancers Match Recap

Updated: Mar 4

Cleveland SC kicked off their season home opener Sunday against a familiar foe in the Rochester Lancers. Cleveland SC hosted the Lancers on a sunny but windy day at Finnie Stadium.

Coming off the last match against the same Lancers group, Cleveland SC was in control throughout the duration of the game. Unfortunately, Cleveland SC only capitalized on one of many opportunities in front of the net. That match was decided in a draw due to Cleveland SC surrendering a goal to the Lancers in the match's final five minutes.

The biggest takeaway from that match and an emphasis/focal point heading into this rematch was finishing opportunities when they present themselves. Nonetheless, the message from Coach Lewis Dunne was heard loud and clear as the group put four in the back of the net from the likes of David Beattie, Corban McAvinew, Vinny Bell, and beauty by Griffin Meyer, a product of Denver University in stoppage time to cap off the scoring frenzy.

Despite the same story of Cleveland SC controlling the game as from the previous match, the Lancers did put up a greater fight in a more physical and sluggish second half that yielded them their lone goal of the afternoon.

However, Cleveland SC came into the match hungrier for a better result than the previous one and stayed true to their game plan from start to finish. After a well-earned three points, Cleveland SC looks to continue this great start as they take on the Pittsburg Hotspurs on June 11th at 7 pm right back here at Finnie Stadium.
