Back to Michigan!
Cleveland SC looks to build upon its 1-0 win over Carpathia FC last weekend in Auburn Hills with a trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan to face new National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) club, Michigan Rangers FC. The match takes place tonight, Sunday, May 21st at 8:00 pm EST, at Davenport University in Grand Rapids.
This will be the first encounter between Cleveland SC and Michigan Rangers FC. However, there is a historical connection between the two clubs, as several of the Rangers’ staff and players previously competed with the Muskegon Risers, who secured a victory over Cleveland SC in the NPSL Midwest Region Final last year on a 90th-minute goal. With both sides aware of the past rivalry, this match holds an extra level of excitement and determination to claim victory.

Michigan Rangers FC is a recently added expansion club in the NPSL. Under the guidance of head coach and general manager Stuart Collins, who previously coached the Muskegon Risers, the Rangers have made a strong start to their inaugural season. In their opening match, they secured a 1-0 victory over Akron City FC, with midfielder Daire O’Riordan finding the back of the net in the 30th minute. The Rangers boast several familiar faces from last season’s Muskegon Risers squad, including nine players who featured in their win over Akron City that played in last year’s Midwest Region Final against Cleveland SC.
Cleveland SC, led by Head Coach Vlad Muresan, will have seventeen available for selection in Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, Chris Cvecko will be absent from tonight’s match due to a card suspension incurred during last year’s Region Final match in Muskegon, Michigan. On a positive note, Jannis Schmidt returns to the squad after serving his one-match suspension.
