Cleveland SC is delighted to announce the appointment of Vlad Muresan as its Head Coach.

Vlad Muresan arrives at Cleveland SC, with an abundance of experience under his belt as technical director at Liberty Futbol Club in Akron, Ohio, for the past ten years and the current Head Coach of Hawken High School Boys Varsity Soccer program since 2019.

In his first interview as head coach, Muresan said, “I am thrilled for this opportunity. I am well aware of the recent history of Cleveland SC, and I feel honored and privileged to be the new manager. I have immersed myself in learning everything I can about the team, the players, and the opponents that we will face. I cannot wait to get started and give the best version of myself for Cleveland SC.”

A native of Romania, Muresan immigrated to America with his family at the age of 11. After finishing high school at St. Ignatius, Muresan spent a year playing professionally for CS Zlatna in Romania’s lower division before returning to Cleveland in 2010.

Muresan stated, “Cleveland SC is the biggest challenge of my career. The chance to coach college players and adults was an opportunity I could not miss. Cleveland has been my home for the past 20 years, and it has been my only home in this country. I am a huge supporter of Cleveland sports, and Cleveland is part of my identity.”

In 2010, Muresan began coaching and obtaining licenses from the USSF. He received his ‘A’ license in 2016 at the age of 24, becoming one of the youngest coaches in the United States to earn this achievement.

Muresan continued, “I cannot wait to get started with the team on the training ground and feel the emotions that the first game of the season will bring. I want to continue the great work done by my predecessor Lewis Dunne, while adding my philosophy and personality to the team. We want to win the next game that we have, and we will try to win every game that we will play. Cleveland SC has a rich playoff history, so we need to get back there.”

On the importance of supporters and the fans, the new head coach said, “I will give everything I have to make the fans proud of this team. Sport is nothing without fans, and we will give our fans a soccer team that they can identify and connect with. Cleveland fans are some of the best fans in the world, and we are lucky to have them supporting us in the best and worst moments of the season. They should expect a team that plays with intensity and verticality, a team that wants to get to goal as soon as possible. Without the ball, we will be organized, disciplined, and ready to press the opponent in areas of the field that we want.”

Sam Seibert, Cleveland SC owner, said: "Coach Muresan is an extremely passionate, well-schooled soccer mind. The ceiling on his potential as a leader and coach in our community is very high, we are lucky to have someone with these attributes take the reins."

Seibert added, "I know Vlad gives us the best chance to three-peat as both Rust Belt Conference and Midwest Regional Champions."

Cleveland SC kicks off the season at home on Saturday, May 14th at George Finnie Stadium vs. FC Buffalo. Season and Single Game Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 29th.
